2021 > Köçek (Male Dancer)

Kocek dance first appeared in the Ottoman Period. At that time, male dancers and male sexual relations were more accepted than today. This study criticizes the taboos, homophobia, and the pressures on the body that are embedded in our culture today.Animation has been used as a method. In the traditional animation technique, which is twenty-four frames per second, each frame is drawn sequentially. In this study, the movement of the dancer is drawn in reverse. (The animation starts from the 24th frame and ends in the 1st frame.) It is aimed to go back in time and break the taboos.

This piece was exhibited on Mixer V Sessions during the summer 2021.
